Handling Saga devices

In this section:

Notice

These guidelines are an addition to the Saga device User Manual and other materials. They are meant to supplement, not substitute, instructions mentioned elsewhere.

When using Saga-P devices, you must ensure the proper handling of both the device and the attached probe.

This section refers to the following device model types:

  • Saga Standard: -20°C to +50°C

  • Saga Arctic: -30°C to +30°C

Do's

  • Handle the device with care to avoid damage to its components.

  • Write only on the designated blank spaces (i.e., on the blank top label or the Saga Device Box, if applicable) to preserve the other labels placed on the device.

  • Always follow the charging instructions when charging the device.

  • Handle the USB connector carefully, and always close it back after charging.

  • Store the device in the recommended environmental conditions.

  • Use the device in shipment conditions within the standard operating temperature range for that device. For details about standard operating temperature ranges for each device, see Device datasheets.

  • Attach the device securely during shipment to prevent damage from impacts.

  • Press buttons gently to avoid damage to internal components.

  • Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning (if necessary).

Don'ts

  • Don't rough handle or drop the device to prevent damage to its components.

  • Don't submerge in water.

  • Don't peel off, scratch, or write on the labels that contain information about the device.

  • Don't add your own labels or stickers, or leave pen marks on the device.

  • Never charge a device in an ambient temperature higher than 30°C or below 0°C.

  • Don't store a device in Low Power Mode without fully charging it first.

  • Don't store a device in areas with poor cellular connectivity or high ambient temperature.

  • Don't use the device in shipment conditions outside its standard operating temperature range. For details about standard operating temperature ranges for each device, see Device datasheets.

  • In case of a temperature excursion, don't let the device operate in the Limited operating temperature range for longer than 6 hours.

  • Don't expose the device to extreme temperatures (below -30°C or above 70°C), as it will damage the components of the device.

  • Don't leave the device loosely packed or loosely attached during transportation.

  • Don't press buttons with excessive force.

  • Don't use abrasive cleaners or solvents for cleaning, as they may damage the device or its labels.

  • Don't use sharp objects around the device.

  • Don't perform any unauthorized modifications or disassembly.

Notice

These guidelines are an addition to the Saga device User Manual and other materials. They are meant to supplement, not substitute, instructions mentioned elsewhere.

When using Saga-P devices, you must ensure the proper handling of both the device and the attached probe.

The Saga and the Saga-P devices use the same firmware to operate. The only difference is that in operation, the Saga-P device is configured to read the temperature from the attached probe.

Note

The Saga device has an IP55 rating, while the Saga-P device has IP54 due to the external connector.

This section refers to the following device model types:

  • Saga Dry Ice: -95°C to +50°C

  • Saga Cryogenic: -200°C to +50°C

Do's

  • Handle the probe and the device as one unit by holding both the probe and the device.

  • Be gentle and avoid sudden movements or use of force.

  • Keep the probe away from sharp edges and serrated surfaces.

  • Keep the probe away from equipment used for cutting or piercing (e.g., utility knives).

  • Make sure the probe's end does not touch the floor or other unsanitary surfaces.

  • Make sure that the end of the probe does not get stuck anywhere when you are moving the Saga-P device.

  • Keep it away from narrow gaps between surfaces (e.g., between the table and the wall or the floor).

Don'ts

  • Don't hold the device by holding only the probe.

  • Never disconnect the probe from the device.

  • Don't pull the probe away from the device.

  • Don't try to move a probe by pulling on the device or using force.

  • Never remove the heat shrink tubing at the probe/device connection.

  • Don't stretch or apply any tension to the probe.

  • Don't bend the probe sharply.

  • Don't coil the probe tightly around the device.

  • Don't coil more than five probes together.

Coiling the probe

Occasionally, you might need to coil the PR-T80 probe of the Saga-P device to return the device to Controlant, for short-term storage, or to prevent the probe from touching the floor while charging.

Always keep the general handling guidelines in mind when coiling the probe.

  1. Place the device on a flat, clean surface that is free from sharp objects.

  2. Gently straighten out the probe to remove any kinks or bends that may have formed during transport or storage.

  3. Hold the probe close to the connector, ensuring not to coil the connector itself (i.e., only coil the white part on PR-T80).

  4. Use your other hand to begin coiling the probe. Coil the probe loosely around the palm of your hand, keeping the coils uniform in size and shape. Avoid twisting or kinking the probe.

  5. Once you have only ~ 15 cm / ~ 6 in left, hold the bundle and the end in one hand to prevent it from unraveling.

  6. Take the remaining probe length in your other hand and wrap it around the outside of the bundle. Continue gently wrapping around until you reach the end while avoiding sharply bending the probe.

  7. Tuck the end between two bigger loops to keep it in place.
